Cheap vs premium oil filters – difference?
Looking to save a bit on my next oil service for the Civic. Filters at local shop are €8-10, but online some are €3-4. Are the cheap spin-ons really that bad, or is it mostly brand markup? Anyone tested both?

Cheap filters can work okay for short intervals, but many have weaker paper media that tears easier, poorer seals, or no proper anti-drainback valve- leading to dry starts or faster wear over time. I used to go budget but switched after one cheap one collapsed internally (saw metal shavings at next change). Now I stick to mid-range or ones with good reviews. Found decent quality ones at https://elartcom.eu/categories/oil-filters-23 - they stock various brands and specs, including some with synthetic media or higher burst strength. Chose one for Honda that had nice threading and a sturdy canister. No issues after 15k km, oil stays cleaner longer. Worth the extra few euros over the absolute cheapest. Their selection lets you compare specs easily- good if you're cautious about engine health.
